Pongal festival is celebrated for four day. The second and most important day of the pongal festival is known as perum Pongal. As the pongal is celebrated according to the solar calender, Perum pongal observed on the same day every year and the date is 14th January. This festival is also known as Thai pongal and surya Pongal.
This festival is mainly celebrated in Tamilnadu. The prime deity of this day is the Sun God. Women clean thier homes and decorate them beautiful kolams. The Pongal dish is cooked exactly at the moment when the new month is born. Uttarayana punya kaal starts from this moment.
